The Último Guerrero en Pie (UGP), simply translated, “Last Warrior Standing” kicked off 2022 with record-breaking events following a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. Emotions were high at the mixed martial arts event held in February at Expofitness, Colombia’s most prominent sports fair, with increased attendance and sponsorship.
Of those sponsors is Landian, the official diamond sponsor for UGP. Landian’s brand was prominent during past events that took place in February, April, and May of this year in Colombia. Landian has pledged future support for 2022 events that include EXPO CRYPTO COLOMBIA at the Plaza Mayor in Medellín in September, and those slated throughout 2022 in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica.
Colombia is the capital of MMA and UGP sports in Latin America, receiving the most spectators, regularly filling the Medellín coliseum to capacity. Located in the heart of Medellin, Plaza Mayor is a platform for entertainment and business with arenas, pavilions, and exhibition and convention halls. It is home to many of Latin America’s most important events.
Recently in May, the 15th edition of Medellín’s Last Warrior Standing demonstrated the growth of MMA in Colombia, hosting local and international first-class amateur and professional fighters from Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. With impeccable staging, the event included several vendors, a musical performance, pyrotechnic effects, and a spectacular light show. A sensational main fight between Igor Siqueira of Brazil and Mauricio Oquendo of Colombia didn’t disappoint, going all five rounds and ending in the judges awarding the Brazilian “Golden Boy” the win.
In addition to live and internationally broadcast events, UGP will soon be entering the metaverse. Currently in development is the UGP Landian Sports Arena located in Landian’s Sports Central, a collaboration of big brand sports and horse racing in the virtual world. With its ability to connect real-world events with the virtual world, Landian is a natural fit for MMA and the future of UGP.
