Exploring and using the metaverse involves knowing its functionalities  in order to take advantage of the benefits. In this blog we explain its utilities for education and lifelong learning.

Learning something new is a process that takes time but can also be a lot of fun. When we study something we like, we focus on understanding the processes, methods, and information that this new knowledge brings to our lives and then we find ways to apply it.

In the metaverse, educating and learning is similar to what we already do today. There are students and teachers who discuss ideas and learn new things, but that way of studying changes and is updated with virtual, augmented, and mixed reality to reach new ways of learning

Education in the metaverse requires a good internet connection, which can be a challenge in some countries, but its benefits transcend connectivity to enter into immersive interaction. We no longer just listen, but we can see and learn. Now we can study via a sensory experience, involving kinesthesia. Researching, reading, and learning about Web3 will be key to getting more done in the metaverse.

Educating through the Web3 is an opportunity that can raise the capacity of students to learn and retain knowledge. It breaks tje limitations of time, place, and didactics. This is why the experience is not the same when, for example, we want to study Ancient Egypt and we look for references in books about gods or cities, but in the metaverse we can walk through those cities in a 3D recreation with image, audio, and video to walk through the great Sphinx of Giza or the Nile Valley. The experience is so immersive that we can even recreate a mummification and study its processes and methods, all from the front row of the metaverse.

Landian in education; our initiatives for turning the metaverse into an educational platform.

For more than a year Landian has maintained important partnerships with universities in Colombia and the United States. Our work with them includes educational consultancies using virtual reality, visits to Landian’s offices to experience the headsets and the Tesla Suit, training in decentralized applications, blockchain and NFTs, classes with Landian developers, and other face-to-face and virtual activities. In addition, the Education district in Landian continues to be in development for academic and entrepreneurial initiatives around education.

Recently, Caira, a leading Spanish student social network and academic consultancy, signed a partnership with Landian to develop immersive experiences with other universities in Europe. This is a milestone for the metaverse and shared education for which Landian is creating Atlantis-inspired virtual functionalities for training on world history and geography. More than one hundred people participated in testing with teachers and students with successful results.

Landian participates as a consultant for educational institutions and universities in Latin America and the United States to create study halls in the metaverse without the traditional boundaries of mainstream education.

Recommendations for creating an educational environment that works in the metaverse

Instead of tasks and projects, it is better to create challenges and missions for students. This is a form of gamification that is more exciting and challenging for students learning about a specific topic. When we gamify an experience, we give it game-like characteristics in areas where it does not have them (such as in our work or studies), so that the environment is more entertaining and dynamic.

Gartner Group, a U.S. technology and innovation consulting firm, predicts that in three years, a quarter of workers will be in the metaverse for an hour or more, also adding that experiential learning improves retention by 75%. These statistics indicate that the metaverse is being leveraged for all people.
Gamification influences motivations, performance, and the use of information technology to increase student interaction in the metaverse, thus increasing adoption.

Chatbots are also a tool that can help to teach in the metaverse. Task automation and virtual tours are leading Web3 training initiatives for studying and learning. At Landian we offer functionalities for education because we are committed to developing the metaverse with human sensitivity. What would you like to learn in a class in the metaverse?
